Gathering Moss

We have some wonderful moss in our backyard. I've saved up articles on growing moss they, (or should I say it?) like buttermilk. Anyway, everybody should rush out and read the book "Gathering Moss", by Robin Wall Kimmerer, a mix of personal essays and moss lore.

Chainlets and So On

I have recently discovered Jenny Harrison's work on a simple reformulation of basic calculus, using little geometrical objects called "chainlets". There is sort of a boom in reformulations of basic calculus going on right now, from topos theory on the "heavy" end to simplfying basic calculus using Lipschitz continuity on the "easy" end. I'll put in links later today.
